Pericardial mesothelioma is affects the pericardium membrane which surrounds the heart causing it to thicken.  When the mesothelial cells comprising the pericardium become cancerous they divide quickly. Peritoneal mesothelioma affects the peritoneal membrane, also known as the peritoneum, is the membrane that surrounds the abdominal cavity.

Unless detected early, mesothelioma victims rarely survive.

It can take up to 40 years after exposure for symptoms to appear.

Mesothelioma symptoms surface gradually, many people will not see a doctor for a long time, often as long a two years after the symptoms begin.

Mesothelioma cannot be detected during a blood test like many other cancers. A chest X-ray, CAT Scan or PET scan are usually required.

Men are at greater risk than women as mesothelioma attacks men 5 to 1 over women, whites are also at greater risk at it attacks them far more than blacks
